For the Love of Corn

Fall brings all the best things: back to school, sweaters and new shoes, and--just to make me homesick for those good ol' Nebraska days--an abundance of corn.

California has an abundance of many things, including the best Pumpkin Patches in the West. We cruised over to CoolPatchPumpkins in Dixon to check one out today. They boast a Guinness Book World Record for largest Corn Maze.

I prefer to avoid giant corn mazes without adult supervision thanks to a childhood/Stephen King/Children of the Corn induced sense of cautiousness. But there were plenty of other fun fall activities:

There's nothing like a corn pond to bring a brother and sister together.

Can't make it to the beach? Corn Mermaid to the rescue.

Tired of that boring treadmill workout? Jump into a pile of grain.

Of course there's always room for contemplation in your very own corn spa.

And once you've had enough corn down your pants for one day, you can take a quick jog through the pumpkin patch, kick it in a tipi, or spend your allowance on baby pumpkins and colorful ears to wap your siblings with.

To quote my friend Tracy, Pumpkin Patch Time is the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.

Model Citizens

In case you aren't getting enough pics of my kids, check out my photographer friend Megan's blog:

She did a photo shoot for Nina & Tom, a local kid's clothing store
and needed some models. I'm sure my kids will be thrilled in their
later days to see these images.

You can also check out her personal site for more of our adventures:

Orser update

Long time no write!! Just a quick note to say hi and fill you in on the haps in good ol' Sac Town.
We started school a few weeks ago and have been

up to our necks in laundry, and very sandy laundry at that.
Anderson is enjoying some sister-free time, although he isn't very happy leaving her at school in the morning. He is especially attached to Isabella's friend Maya.  I'm assuming they'll get married some day, but we'll have to keep you posted.

Andrew found an old fish kite in the garage which has provided many hours of entertainment.

We took a little trip to China Town a few weeks ago and wasted five dollars on a pair of parasols that lasted exactly seventeen minutes. (It's always nice to get your money's worth.)

The kids were digging the train. We took the BART into the city from Hayward or Richmond or somewhere--I've blocked the memory from my mind. There's nothing like maneuvering four toddlers, two double strollers, and a diaper bag or two up an escalator and through a turnstile. (I have no idea how to spell that word. Is it even a word? I'm from nebraska, we don't have turnstiles there, we have autogates.) Still, it's great to have a little excitement now and then.

Other than that, we've just hung around the water areas at the park, trying to keep cool. I'm definitely looking forward to fall-- my faaaavorite time of year!!!

Although, I'm looking forward to Spring even more this year!!! Can't wait until March!

Charlotte's Plate and a Preview of Tomorrow

Yup, I think Charlotte will definitely like it
and I think that is where it belongs!

But tomorrow's is even better .....

the clue read:  My favorite text from you.

Last year ... or maybe it was the year before that ...
or perhaps even the year before that ....
(time flies after you pass 40)

I received a text from Sister Two that read:
I'm in Bingo Hell!

So this gift was only fitting  ....

Do you suppose this is what Sister Two
will look like in another 40 years?!

Birthday count down gifts

I have received some interesting gifts these past few days.
Last Friday's gift said something about the finer things in life.

I opened the gift not knowing what to expect, it was an interesting
wall plate depicting an era in time that involved horses and carriages.
I'm still not sure where I'm going to hang that one, maybe in Charlotte's house.

Charlotte

The next day I opened a stuffed bear with the Libra emblem on it.

Followed by a chicken key chain. Sorry I don't remember what the clues given were.
Must be my old age that I can't remember.

Than I opened a gift that cracked me up.
Sister One's clue stated she couldn't agree more.

We laughed at this one.

This morning clue was it reminded her of dad's sweet peas. It was a tiny bud vase.

So somethings are useful, just not the butt ugly horse & carriage plate.
