Another Crazy Week

This week has been crazy. Both of the kids are sick with runny noses and coughing like that scene in brokeback mountain where the mom is elbow deep in dirty dishwater and both of her kids are bawling and coughing and Heath Ledger comes in to wipe their noses. Except Andrew is our Ennis.

If you haven't seen the movie, you have to see it because it is totally awesome and sad and beautiful.

We finally got the keys to our new house. Between the time we wired the money for the downpayment and finally got the keys, someone broke in through the bathroom window and used one of the rooms as their personal Super 8. I'm assuming it was a pair of teenagers because all of the condom wrappers they left behind were from Planned Parenthood. And how many adults go to Planned Parenthhood? And it couldn't have been a homeless person, because who ever was in there left a receipt on the floor for their purchase of Astroglide. We don't know if a homeless person would splurge on personal lubricants. On the bright side, if you are going to be a little hooligan and have sex in an abandoned building, it's always smart to use protection.

The people that lived in the house before it was foreclosed on did a lot of tile work. The whole house is star tile except for the bedrooms. Kind of hard to match a couch to that pattern, but if you want to go rollerskating, it's very nice.

The other exciting thing that happened this week (in addition to Isabella starting pre-school . . . more on that on Flashback Friday) is that I just got a part time job. It sounds crazy, but I've secretly wanted to be a photographer ever since I saw Katie working in the darkroom in high school. (I didn't get picked for the darkroom staff when I tried out, so I took that as a sign that I would be a hopeless failure at photography and gave up on the idea at age 16.)

But every so often I reread the book The Artist's Way where you answer little questions and brainstorm about crazy things you would love to try if it wasn't so crazy. . . i.e. become a brain surgeon, trapeze artist, third grade teacher, etc. And the one job that alwys comes up for me is photographer.

I have a friend who has her own photography business who is totally inspiring, (http://www.meganwilkinsonphotography.com/blog/) but I didn't want to take that big of a leap yet. I've been looking for a part time job anyway just for a little extra money on the weekends. So I applied at the photo studio at Arden Fair Mall called The Picture People and they want to hire me. Here's there website: http://www.picturepeople.com/

I'm totally excited! (So don't make fun of me if you feel the urge to say -- you got a master's degree to work at the mall?) It probably doesn't sound glamourous, but I think it's going to be awesome because I'll get to learn how to use all of the equipment and how to pose people better and most importantly how to sell. That way, if I decide to try my own business down the road, I'll have a better chance at making it work.)

I'll keep you posted on how it goes!

Wow! WOW! WOW!

A photographer's assistant? How awesome is that. I still want my own dark room/ photo lab and would love to get back into that hobby. Someday my kids will quit wanting $20 every time I turn around and then I can purchase a super cool camera.

Maybe the "persons" who chose to use the room at the new house will be interested in renting it from you. I just hope you found the leftovers before the kids did. EWWWW!
